TRX FAQ — H2L Studio (Mechanicsburg, PA)

What is TRX?

TRX stands for Total Body Resistance Exercise. It’s a suspension training system using two anchored straps to help you build strength, improve flexibility, boost endurance, and engage your core in every move.

Expect a full-body workout using just your body weight for squats, lunges, planks, push-ups, hinges, and more — all powered by your core.

TRX was created by a Navy SEAL who wanted to stay fit no matter where he was. While our straps stay in place on the wall, they’re designed to be portable and usable anywhere — from trees and fences to doors and gym anchors.

Do I need experience to try TRX?

Not at all! We welcome all levels in our TRX classes.

We recommend attending a Beginner TRX Workshop if it fits your schedule (check our Events/Workshops page for upcoming dates). If not, you’re still welcome in any TRX class — our instructors provide modifications and guidance to help you work safely and confidently.

What muscles will I work in TRX?

All. Of. Them.
TRX training is designed to engage your entire body, with special emphasis on core strength, muscle endurance, and functional movement. You’ll feel it everywhere — in the best way.

What are the benefits of TRX training?

  • Total-body strength

  • Improved flexibility

  • Increased core stability

  • Low-impact, joint-friendly movements

  • Customizable intensity for beginners, seniors, athletes, and everyone in between

TRX is one of the most adaptable, effective workouts around. You’ll get stronger each week and improve your body control, posture, and balance.

Do I need sneakers?

Yes. Sneakers or gym shoes are required for TRX classes.

Do I get my own straps?

Yes! Each anchor has two sets of straps, and every client gets their own dedicated pair of handles for class.

Do I need to bring anything?

  • Sneakers

  • Comfortable workout clothes

  • Water (We also have a cooler on-site.)

We provide everything else — including a textured TRX mat designed to keep you stable. You’re welcome to bring your own yoga or Pilates mat if you prefer.

Do I need to bring a mat?

Nope, we’ve got you covered. We use non-slip TRX mats that are thicker and more stable than standard yoga mats. You’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer, but it’s not necessary.

Will I break a sweat?

That’s up to you — but most people do!
TRX classes are designed to challenge your body, but our instructors always offer options for all fitness levels. Go at your own pace, listen to your body, and take breaks when you need to. Push yourself when you’re ready!

How long is a TRX class?

We offer two formats:

  • TRX Express: 30 minutes

  • Standard TRX: 45 minutes

Both formats deliver a full-body, efficient workout that fits your schedule.

How often should I take TRX?

We recommend incorporating TRX (or other Strength Training Classes) 2–3 times per week as part of a well-rounded fitness routine.
A balanced week might look like:

  • TRX: 2–3 times

  • Yoga: 1 time

  • Cycling or HIIT: 1–2 times

  • Barre or Pilates: 1 time

Mix it up to keep your workouts exciting and your body guessing.

Are TRX squats easier or harder than regular squats?

Both — and that’s the beauty of it!
The straps can help support beginners in maintaining proper form and building strength. For advanced clients, TRX allows you to deepen your squats, improve balance, and increase control. You choose the intensity.

Can I use my class package for TRX?

Yes! TRX is included in all of our Group Fitness Class Packages, which also cover:

  • Barre

  • Yoga

  • Mat Pilates

  • HIIT

  • Bootcamp

  • Cycling

Meet Heather E.

The Facts: Heather Eyster teaches Barre, Cycle, and TRX classes here at H2L Studio. She’s certified in the Barre Above Method, Schwinn Indoor Cycling, NCCPT (National Council for Certified Personal Trainers) and SCW Sports Nutrition.

Her History: Heather has played sports her entire life and after playing basketball in College at West Chester she needed to do something to stay active. Heather had avidly practiced yoga since she was a Junior in High School and she fell in love with weight training during college. In 2012 she became a personal trainer while living in DC and always preached to her clients and herself that you have to switch it up! She encouraged them to try different classes, different types of cardio and not just stick with the same methods of exercise over and over again. Heather came to H2L when it first opened and took a Barre class with Courtney and fell in love. About a two years later she decided to get certified and wanted to be part of the studio she fell in love with. As part of “switching it up” about a year after getting certified in Barre she got certified in Cycling. She is also one of our TRX certified trainers. When Heather isn’t working in Sales or teaching here, she is spending time with family and friends, hiking, going to concerts, always trying new food and traveling whenever she can!

What to Expect: During Heather’s class, you can expect to hear a variety of music from classic rock to rap music while incorporating more yoga and weight training.

Her History: Fitness has always been a big part of Heather’s life. In college, she played Field Hockey for the James Madison University Dukes where she was named an All-American her senior year. After graduating with a degree in International Business and Spanish she worked as a management consultant for Accenture in Washington DC but never left her fitness roots behind. She started coaching part-time in 1994 and has been involved in some way with sharing her love of the game since that time. She has coached and trained athletes at the college, high school, and club level and recently took over the youth program for Mechanicsburg. Fitness is a part of her family life as well, and most vacations involve some sort of active adventure! Her three kids are all involved in sports; Abby runs Cross Country and Track for Washington University in St. Louis, Alec plays lacrosse at Kings College, and Isabelle plays soccer and runs track for Mechanicsburg High School. Her husband Bob played tight end at Washington & Lee and her brother Bryan played wide receiver for the Virginia Cavaliers.

Meet Lindsey

Her History: Lindsey graduated from Messiah College in December 2017 with a degree in Music and Worship and a minor in Human Development and Family Science. Her love for fitness began in her junior year of high school where she developed a love for running and yoga. Although her days of running became less frequent as she experienced knee problems, she began attending H2L shortly after the studio opened and quickly fell in love with Barre, Barefoot, Cycling and Pilates. While she never thought she would become a fitness instructor, she is excited to share her passion for exercise and wellness with others. Each time she practices Barre or attends a cycling class she believes it is another opportunity to push herself, mind and body, more than the class before, and she hopes to empower others to do the same. She is also passionate about empowering others to feel confident and strong in the skin they are in.

When she is not teaching at H2L, she enjoys making music, practicing calligraphy, baking/cooking, and spending time with her husband, Mitch, and friends and family.

What to Expect: During Lindsey’s class, you can expect to work in longer intervals while being encouraged to work at your own pace and fitness level. By combining classic fitness movements and incorporating unique movements that the TRX allows for, she hopes the TRX classes will add a great variety to your fitness regime. Ultimately, she hopes you will feel encouraged to grow in your mental and physical strength, and leave feeling stronger and energized.
