Be Realistic
Do not set goals that are way out in left field. Make goals for yourself that are attainable and healthy. Healthy goals such as “working out 6 days a week”, will help get your body into a routine and allow you to stay on track towards your goal. Unhealthy goals like “lose 40 pounds in 4 weeks” only stress you out more and bring negative feelings when you do not attain that goal, resulting in a lack of motivation to keep going. Be sure to give yourself adequate time to accomplish the goal, if you accomplish the goal before the time period you gave yourself, strive to exceed that goal!

Watch your progress
Technology is everywhere, so why not utilize it to help keep track of your progress? There are all kinds of programs that can help you visualize your progress from start to finish. Being able to see that you are actually making progress will help motivate you to keep going and to maintain your commitment to your specific goal.

Do not dwell on setbacks or slip-ups
We are all human! There will be days you do not feel motivated to work on your goal. That is okay! Sometimes our bodies need a rest day or a cheat meal. Do not let one day of rest or a few of those left over Christmas cookies make you feel like your goal is completely unattainable. There are always bumps on the road to success, but the way you deal with them will show you if you are still committed to your lifestyle change or not.fitness studio

Get your friends on board
Trying to achieve any type of goal without support is tough. Having people beside you that have the same motivation and commitment to their goal will help you stay focused on the road ahead. Even though you may not be headed toward the same end goal as your friends, having the support along the way can help you get through the times you feel like you should just give up.

Reward yourself
Make checkpoints within your goal that will allow you to see that you are progressing. When you hit these checkpoints reward yourself with something you enjoy. Go get a massage, splurge on a new outfit or something you’ve had your eye one for a while, take a day off and relax or make it a day all about you. Giving yourself these rewards will keep you motivated to continue on your journey towards your goal. You’ll look forward to attaining each check point!

These are just a few tips that can help you stay committed and motivated for this resolution season. But these tips do not just have to be applied for your New Years resolution, apply them in any situation or for any goal you want to achieve. Also, do not be afraid to start your journey earlier. We all say “Okay I’ll start that tomorrow” but what is wrong with today, why not start chipping away at that goal. You may find yourself achieving and surpassing that goal you set for yourself, when that happens watch out you might just be able to take on the world!
